STDs/ STIs

(Sexually Transmitted Diseases)

There are over 20 Sexually Transmitted Diseases! However many of them are obscure and rare. Some of the more commonly known ones are listed below. Or click the "STDs" drop-down menu above. More will be listed later. Some good sites for STD information are listed here.

Sometimes STDs are called STIs- Sexually Transmitted Infections. This is because technically, the "disease" shows up after the "infection" occurs and also, infections like "Crabs" (Pubic Lice) or fungal infections aren't really a disease but are still an infection or infestation that results from sexual contact. But to keep it simple, we'll use the more common term STD. (By the way, if you hear the term VD, or Venereal Disease, or even "Social Disease" they mean the same thing-those are just older terms.)

Things to know: Most STDs are the result of an infection from a fungus, a virus or from bacteria. It's important to realise that fungi, viruses and bacteria have no brains, no conscience. They don't care if you have never had sex before, or if you have had a lot of sexual contact. Just like a cold virus or food bacteria, they just do what they are built to do - infect you and survive to reproduce

Some STD infections can be a fairly minor problem, some can be a big deal and a few can shorten your life or kill you many years before you should die. So learn about them, learn how to protect yourself and your partner.

This page and links are still under development. Any comments or questions either about STDs or about the website are welcome. Click a link on your right for information on any of the infections listed or click the "STDs" menu at the top.
